As part of Mali’s national digital transformation agenda, the TNT Mali Project aims to modernize the country’s television broadcasting infrastructure, transitioning from analog to digital terrestrial television (DTT).
Our company was selected as manufacturer and system integrator to design, deploy, and operationalize a state-of-the-art broadcast network covering the entire nation — a critical step toward universal access to digital media and information.
Mali, with a population exceeding 18 million, faced several structural challenges in achieving full digital TV coverage:
- Outdated analog infrastructure and limited regional connectivity
- Difficult logistics due to geographical and security constraints
- Regulatory and operational complexity across multiple regions
- The need for sustainable, energy-efficient, and easily maintainable systems
The goal was clear: deliver a robust, scalable, and secure DTT network ensuring reliable access to digital television for every Malian household.
As the lead system integrator, our team oversaw the end-to-end design, engineering, and deployment of Mali’s new broadcast ecosystem.
Key project components included:
- 51 Transmission Sites, including 50 housed in specialized shelters with hybrid fiber and satellite connectivity
- A Head-End Network in Bamako integrating advanced IP-based video transport and multiplexing for both free and encrypted channels
- Real-time monitoring and supervision software enabling continuous network performance analysis
- Training and knowledge transfer programs to empower local engineers and technicians
The solution complies with DVB-T2 standards, ensuring interoperability, energy efficiency, and future scalability.
- Deployment of three fully operational broadcast stations in Bamako (CE Kati, CE Point G, and CRES ) , providing 100% digital coverage for the capital.
- Training of 18 Malian engineers and technicians in France, focusing on IP networks, satellite transmission, and broadcast standards.
- Collaborative work with local institutions and industrial partners to ensure long-term sustainability and local ownership.
Despite complex logistics and challenging operating conditions, the project advanced through a phased rollout that balanced infrastructure delivery with capacity building.
- Full digital coverage of Bamako, enabling citizens to access up to 20 free national channels.
- Modern, scalable infrastructure ready for national expansion across all regions of Mali.
- Strengthened local expertise, ensuring autonomous management and maintenance.
- Accelerated digital inclusion, fostering economic and technological growth through media access and job creation.
The TNT Mali initiative represents a cornerstone in Mali’s digital ecosystem, bridging technology, governance, and local development.
- Complex national infrastructure projects can succeed through strong international collaboration and local capacity building.
- Standardized DVB-T2 architecture ensures long-term compatibility and resilience.
- System integration leadership plays a decisive role in aligning technology, logistics, and human factors in challenging environments.
